Hot Buttered Soul

Annie’s love affair with Soul music began when she walked into the Youth Club at her local church in her home city of Liverpool aged 12. Wilson Pickett’s, “ Land of 1000 dances “ was playing and she was blown away by the sound and energy. The DJ played classic Soul and Motown throughout the night and she was hooked.

Stephen is chair of Altrincham Community Media CIC - the company that operates RadioAlty.co.uk and the Alty Podcast channel.​

​​Originating from Northern Ireland but a resident of Altrincham since 1993, Rod has been presenting on local radio since 2017 after brain surgery forced him to retire.  

On his week day radio show, Rod combines a bit of chat, a love of new music, unsigned bands and classic tracks with a passion for new and live music to his afternoon show #theLateLateLunchshow 2-4pm.

He has also presented on a number of podcasts produced by Altrincham Community Media and currently co-presents The Theatres of Dreams football podcast.

Ultimate Chart Show

Ian is a freelance TV sport director working on shows like Match of the Day & NFL for the BBC, Champions League & Premier League for BT Sport, Formula 1 for Channel 4 and major cycling events for Eurosport. He has lived in Altrincham for 9 years and has two children at the local schools.

Ian Finch presents a show on Monday nights featuring a mix of the finest tracks from across the decades plus a weekly interactive chart - the Ultimate Top Ten.

Steve Hazlehurst - "the third Pastry"

Thursday's are now rebranded 'Pastries in the Moaning' with our resident curmudgeon, Steve Hazlehurst joining Peter Scotson and putting the world to rights.  Amplifying life's minor irritations and telling it like it is, you will find yourself in stitches and in complete agreement with many of his views and observations.  Lots of jokes, gags and one liners; this man keeps you glued to the wireless.......
Barry Purves 
Bedtime with Barry
Barry has lived in Altrincham for forty years and is heavily involved in the arts, mainly animation and theatre, and has won many awards for his work. He teaches and speaks around the world, and has a few books to his name.  Join him every Thursday evening at 9.00 for an hour of musical massage, as he plays a variety of mellow opera, ballet, folk and film music, all to give you time to sit back and go  'aaaahhh!'

Ken Garrity
Alty Afternoons with Ken Garrity & Friends 
Ken has lived in the Altrincham area for over 30 years and as a travel agent has a passion for travel having visited most parts of the world.  He is well known in the area having served as Provost of Altrincham and is currently an Alderman of the Court Leet.  Ken was also President of Altrincham Rotary and still gets involved with the community and charity work.
He is known for his expert “mithering” to get updates from the area particularly local businesses, shops and cafes and he keeps abreast of what is happening across Altrincham bringing updates to his show on Tuesday afternoons here on Radio Alty.

Jazztime with Joel 
Joel wasn't born a Jazz fan - once he started to show a strong affinity for music his curiosity took him on a journey.
Working in a certain record store in the centre of Manchester he had the opportunity to listen to anything he wanted to and that expanded his musical taste buds.

The aim of "Jazz Time" is to play the many types of Jazz.  Jazz is a small word but a big subject.  Joel is  always listening and learning.

Alison Howells
RadioAlty Operations 
Originally from Lancaster, Alison and her husband  Nick lived in Macclesfield & Wilmslow during the 1980s & 90s when she worked as an IT project manager.   Seeking a change in lifestyle, they moved to the south of France in 2002 with their three children.  They discovered RadioAlty soon after our launch and became very regular and loyal listeners starting with Annie and "Hot Buttered Soul". In June 2022 Alison offered to help with the increasing amount of station operations tasks and administration  and we soon said yes! We are all delighted to have her on the team, working alongside us virtually from her home on the Med!       

Alison's hobbies are photography and listening to music and she  can be found every morning all year-round swimming in the beautiful Mediterranean.  "I am delighted to be volunteering with RadioAlty where I hope my back office skills can support the excellent presenters and range of shows that the station produces."

The Big RadioAlty Breakfast Show - Thursdays
Dennis is no stranger to the airwaves having broadcast and volunteered at Wythenshawe FM for years.  On Thursday's he brings a mix of great tunes from across the years and genres to RadioAlty and shares his passion for the community and love of football having been a referee at a senior professional level of the game.  So join him every Thursday from 8am for 2 hours of great tunes, some chat and updates on the news and sport!
Will Boshell
The Dyl & Will Show 
Often known as the brains behind Thursday afternoons, Will was certainly Ken's co-pilot on the show and now with Dylan has his own show on Thursdays from 2pm.   Although from Hazel Grove his Altrincham credentials come through his extended family who he assures us he loves to visit!  Went to Hazel Grove High School and then Aquinas College to study Photography, Graphic Design and Creative Media.  
James Spencer

Hi I'm James and I've been operating exclusively for RadioAlty since January 2022. I produce and present : James Spencer 'View From The Street' on Monday afternoon's during Rod Maxwell's TheLateLateLunch show slot.

Hello. I am Dylan, I am from Sunny Stockport! I studied at Werneth High School and progressed into Aquinas after year 11. I am currently a full time Staff-Trainer at McDonald’s. Ed Pugh
The Big RadioAlty Breakfast Show with Ed Pugh (Mondays from 8am)
Ed has worked in TV for over 40 years working on a range of shows, but mostly on Children’s Programmes, where he directed Grange Hill  and produced Byker Grove. He was also Head of the Children’s departments at BBC Manchester, Granada and BBC Scotland. He directed two series of the hit football comedy Jossy’s Giants, which first brought him and his family to Manchester. He has always had a love of Radio being raised on the sounds from the pop pirates of the 60’s. Back in his twenties he worked at two hospital radio stations, so now he is delighted to return to presenting on the Monday Breakfast show, where his love of all kinds of music from across the decades will be played. His seven grandchildren will suggest the latest tunes and the show will be ‘more groovy than granola!’ 
Heidi Pashley Johnson
Atomic Youth

​Heidi moved to Manchester two years ago for uni and was instantly thrown into the local scene. Working at Manchester staple venues like Fuel Bar, The Bread Shed and The Deaf Institute has given her a love for live, new music that she now shares in Atomic Youth on Wednesdays at 8pm. Here, you can hear the best new tracks from emerging artists and bands in Manchester and get recommendations on the best places to go and see them live. When she's not engineering shows, Heidi can be found watching Deal or No Deal (and getting VERY into it) or at the local pub playing pool (badly) and drinking pints (very well).

Elysia Zdolyny
The Earth Show - Thurs 4pm
Elysia is the presenter of the weekly Earth Show on Radio Alty. Passionate about all things environmental, science and sustainability related, she is keen about making conversations about these topics both fun and accessible to more people. She loves having discussions with everyone, from expert guests to local people with something to say. If you would like to come on a show, she’d love to hear from you!
 
Elysia has lived in the Altrincham area all her life and went to school locally. She graduated from Oxford University in 2023 where she studied Material Science, and in her free time now volunteers as a gardener for the National Trust.

Rhiannon Provost
The Big Alty Breakfast - Tues 8-10am
Rhiannon is a recent graduate from the University of Salford with a BA Hons in Broadcast Journalism where she specialised in current affairs and politics. Rhiannon has worked with Hits Radio and her university channels, Quays News on YouTube and Quays Radio on Soundcloud. Originally starting with Radio Alty for work experience, she has stayed on to continue doing what she loves while gaining confidence in broadcasting with Tourette's. Her Tuesday morning show will take you through global news, explaining all the bits and bobs you might miss. All this interspersed with classic tracks and a hint of chaos!!!!
David Hall
Pop Connections - Sat 10am
David is an Alty local and a multi-awarding winning producer, format creator, and television executive, who has produced, developed, and consulted on a number of high-profile TV shows including the all-new ‘Deal or No Deal’, ‘The Chase’, ‘The X Factor’, ‘Got Talent’, ‘The Greatest Dancer’, ‘Countdown’, ‘Location, Location, Location’, ‘Pride of Britain’, ‘Naked Attraction’, ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’, ‘The Paul O’Grady Show’, ‘This Morning’ and now working on BBC's Morning Live.

He is  qualified journalist who is the recipient of a BATFA, an RTS, two NTAs, a Broadcast Award, a Campaign for Racial Equality Award, and a New York Film Festival Award.   David started in radio during his student years and has returned to it to bring this unique show to RadioAlty.co.uk.
John Hancock
Mainly Country - Saturday 9pm/ Monday 5pm
Alty local John Hancock brings a new country show to RadioAlty focusing on the genre of music that has seen him travel the world and especially America to discover the origins of country music.  

Born in Manchester, John worked for the Greater Manchester Fire Service for over 30 years retiring as a Divisional Fire Officer.  He started his career in the merchant navy.  In retirement he has worked with the Princes Trust volunteering as a prison liaison officer for young offenders.  He has also been a volunteer hospital ambulance driver supporting adults with special needs, volunteered with National England at Rostherne Nature Reserve and has been a Justice of the Peace (JP) for over 20 years.  When not listening to country music John enjoys wildlife photography and playing the guitar!

Join John every week for “Mainly Country” - country music from across the decades. 
Mike Atkins-Spelling
Production Support
Mike is an iPhone developer who currently works on the Moonpig app - but started off at the BBC, working on the iPlayer Radio (now Sounds) app.

Originally from York, he lived for a while in Switzerland before moving back to York to study music technology in 2007. After graduating, he joined the BBC in London to work on the web technology for the 2012 Olympics before moving up to Altrincham over 11 years ago to work at MediaCity.

Although his 3 daughters keep him busy you'll mostly find him in one of Altrincham's many coffee shops or in his man-cave playing guitar. Hoping to re-discover and make use of his sound recording background Mike's looking forward to helping out with anything tech and recording related at Radio Alty.
